  • Hugs

    Robert Munsch, Michael Martchenko

Board book (Scholastic Canada, March 26, 2019)
Munsch and Martchenko have created their very first original book designed specifically for preschoolers! When Thea gets mad at mommy, she and her little brother go for a walk around the block. They meet a snail, a skunk, a porcupine, and a gorilla, and get a hug from each one — but the hugs are slimy, smelly, pokey, and way too hard! It's not until they get back to mommy that Tate and Thea get a really good hug. This book was inspired by a brother and sister from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan who Robert Munsch met while on a ski vacation.

  • Stolen Child

    Marsha Forchuk Skrypuch

Mass Market Paperback (Scholastic Canada, Jan. 2, 2010)
Stolen from her family by the Nazis, Nadia is a young girl who tries to make sense of her confusing memories and haunting dreams. Bit by bit she starts to uncover the truth-that the German family she grew up with, the woman who calls herself Nadia's mother, are not who they say they are. Beyond her privileged German childhood, Nadia unearths memories of a woman singing her a lullaby, while the taste of gingersnap cookies brings her back to a strangely familiar, yet unknown, past. Piece by piece, Nadia comes to realize who her real family was. But where are they now? What became of them? And what is her real name? This story of a Lebensborn girl-a child kidnapped for her "Aryan looks" by the Nazis in their frenzy to build a master race-reveals one child's fierce determination to uncover her past against incredible odds.

Paperback (Scholastic Canada, Aug. 6, 2019)
Leonardo has been funny since he was born: he was a funny baby, he was a funny toddler, he was a funny first-grader. But now, his teacher Mrs. Gomez asks him to stop being funny so that the class can learn. He tries his best, but he just has to make a funny face, then tell a funny joke, and then show a funny drawing – with predictable results. And when he finally seriously promises faithfully never to be funny again, he makes the teacher laugh so hard she falls down on the floor laughing!

  • Up, Up, Down

    Robert Munsch

Paperback (Scholastic Canada, March 15, 2001)
In this zany story, Anna likes to climb on the refrigerator and her dresser and go "up, up, up" even though she falls down "ow ouch!" When her parents protest, she goes outside, where it's okay to climb, and climbs the highest tree she can find. Sitting in the top, she goads her parents to come after her; when they fall down trying, she relents and climbs down to wrap them in "enormous Band-Aids" and repeats what they've been telling her: "Be CAREFUL-don't CLIMB!" The humor is in the timing, the changing size and placement of the text, and the silliness of the plot. The watercolor illustrations are also over-the-top with ridiculously exaggerated points of view, comical-looking characters, and little jokes, such as a tiny treetop animal watching TV or stars flying off Daddy's injured bottom. This is sure to be a hit, especially with this team's fans.
